Enabling downloads using FTP applications and Internet Explorer


Because our department network is behind a firewall, you may encounter problems downloading files from outside our local network using FTP applications or Internet Explorer. To allow FTP access and downloads through the firewall, you must change your OS X network settings to use "FTP Passive Mode" for each type of internet connection you have (ethernet, modem etc.) and check that your FTP application is using this mode also. These changes can only be made if you have administrative access to your computer.
