How to deactivate Mac OS X software updates

Not all software appearing through the Software Update utility should be installed: it may not be applicable to your system or may not be compatible with your hardware.

You can deactivate software in Software Update that you do not wish to install by

  1. selecting the software in the Software Update selection list
  2. selecting the menu item "Update>Make Inactive..."
  3. and clicking on the "Make Inactive" button

The selected software will be grayed out and will be ignored by Software Update when it is running.

You can hide inactive software by

  1. selecting the menu item "Updates>Hide Inactive Updates"

To show inactive software

  1. select the menu item "Updates>Show Inactive Updates"

To activate inactive software

  1. show the inactive updates
  2. select the software from the selection list
  3. select the menu item "Updates>Make Active"
