Where do I Find my Computer's IDs?

The Computer ID (aka MAC address) is a unique network number assigned to each networking interface of a computer (Built-in Ethernet and Airport). Because of its uniqueness a Computer ID can be used to limit the access of a computer on a secure network.

Finding the Computer ID of your computer can be done using System Preferences.

  1. Start System Preferences under the Apple menu.

  2. Select "Network" under the "Internet & Network" row of buttons.

  3. The Built-in Ethernet Computer ID is found by double clicking on the "Built-in Ethernet" item.

Select the "Ethernet" button from the button bar. The "Ethernet ID" is the Computer ID (aka MAC address).

  4. The Airport Computer ID is found by double clicking on the "Airport" item.

The "Airport ID" is the Computer ID (aka MAC address).
