How do I create groups in Moodle?

Moodle lets you organize your students by groups, making viewing their quiz and assignment results more easily. Here is how to create groups in Moodle:

  1. Go to the "Groups" page
Log in to your Moodle course. In the "Administration" block, click on the "Groups" link.
  2. Select or Create a Group
In the Groups page, you will see three categories: People in the Course, Groups, and Members of Selected Group.
Select an existing group if it suits your needs or create a new group by entering a title for the group and clicking on "Add new group".
  3. Select students
Select your students from the People in the Course list. You can select multiple students by holding the Command key while clicking on the names. Be sure to select only your students. Other TAs will need to remove their students from your group before they can add them to theirs.
  4. Add the students to your group
Click on the "Add selected to group". You will see your selected students appear in the "Members of selected group" category.
  5. Filter quiz results by group
Go to the Quizzes section of your Moodle course and select the "Attempts" for any quiz.
Under "Overview" for the quiz select your group from the "Separate groups" pop-up list.

The quiz results are filtered by your group
